Just after four a.m. on Friday, the Cleveland Police Department responded to a report of a stolen automobile in the 1500 block of Springplace Road. Approximately 45 minutes later, the vehicle owner saw his 1997 Ford Explorer turning onto Bates Pike at Johnson Boulevard.

Bradley County Sheriff's Deputy Travis Smith located the vehicle at Bates Pike and APD 40 and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle sped away in an attempt to elude the officer.

The pursuit continued to Oak Grove Elementary School where the vehicle went behind the building and the driver fled on foot. He was taken into custody by BCSO deputies and identified as Kenny Antonio May, 46, of Washington Avenue.

May is charged with felony evading arrest, theft over $1,000, and driving on a revoked license.

The BCSO recovered the vehicle without damage and returned it to the owner.
