OXFORD, Miss. --- The Lady Mocs tennis team scored three singles victories and a double win at the Ole Miss Fall Classic at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center while the men lost both matches at the Wildcard Challenger in Knoxville.
In the C Flight singles, Beata Knizat netted a 6-4, 7-5 win over Amanda Brown of Memphis to advance to take on Leydi Zora of South Alabama Saturday.
In the D Flight singles matches, Annie Green won a hard fought three-set match over Arkansas-Little Rock’s Fanny Lopez. Green took the first set 6-4 then fell 4-6 in the second. However, she would battle back and win the third set 7-5 and will take on South Alabama’s Emily Laing.
In the other D Flight singles match, Brianna Wishing defeated Jacksonville State’s Laura Lundy 7-5, 6-1. She will face Arkansas-Little Rock’s Sybille De Rochefort.
Milou Israel, ULL, defeated Chattanooga’s Jennemieke van der Veek in straight sets in the B Flight bracket and Emily Hangstefer had to withdraw from her first match due to injury in the A Flight.
In doubles action, Green and parter Shaina Singh defeated Chelminska and Kamal of South Alabama 8-6 in the B Flight. The duo fell to Gordon and R. D. Gaun of ULL 8-3. In the A Flight doubles match, UTC’s Knizat and van der Veek fell to Krisan/Welch 8-1.
Action will pick up Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with doubles matches.
In men’s tennis action Friday, Chattanooga’s pair failed to advance in the Wildcard Challenger Tournament in Knoxville. Alex Butnarcuic fell to UTK’s Jeremy Tweedt in straight sets while Dakota Pate lost to Taylor Patrick of UTK, 6-2, 6-4.
