Proctor, Sandra "Sandy" Coleman Longtime Nursing Administrator In Various Hospitals posted October 11, 2008
Sandra was born on December 9, 1950. She was the daughter of Mary June and James Irby Coleman. She attended Lakeview High School where she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 39 years, Charles C. Proctor Jr. She graduated in 1968. Sandra attended the Erlanger Hospital School of Nursing in Chattanooga, where she received her diploma in nursing in 1971. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1987 from Southern College in Collegedale, Tn., and her Master of Science in nursing in 1994 from the University of Tennessee. She was a member of AORN, FASA, and Sigma Theta Tau. After obtaining her nursing diploma, Sandra was employed at the TC Thompson Children’s Hospital of Erlanger in Chattanooga from 1971-1973 as an operating room nurse. She was employed at Parkridge Hospital from 1973-1975 as an operating room nurse, and from 1976-1978 she was a Nursing Instructor for Chattanooga Public Schools. In 1980 she became Assistant Head Nurse of the Surgery Department at Tepper Hospital, and then returned to TC Thompson’s from 1980 to 1984 as Surgery Supervisor. In 1984, Sandra became an employee at Memorial Hospital where she remained until 1995. During this time she had various responsibilities such as Director of Pediatric Unit, Director of Surgical Services, and ultimately, Assistant Vice-President. From 1995 to 1996 Sandra worked for Housecall Healthcare as the Administrator of Home HealthCare and Hospice. From 1996-2005, Sandra was the administrator of the Atrium Memorial Surgery Center in Chattanooga. From 2005 to present, Sandra was the Vice President of Operations for the Ambulatory Surgery Division of HCA Healthcare. Sandra was a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the Searchers Sunday School class. Sandra’s interests outside of nursing involved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, cooking, reading, gardening, bird watching, and traveling. She was known as a devoted wife, mother, nana, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved greatly by those who were fortunate enough to know her as a spirited, intelligent, generous and caring person who was dedicated first and foremost to her church and family. Sandra is survived by her husband, Charles, of Ringgold; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Andrea Proctor, of Ringgold; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Scott Haney of Norcross, Ga.; and her daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Rusty Torbett of Ringgold. Sandra is also survived by her mother, Mary June Coleman and her brother, Butch Coleman, both of Ringgold. She is survived by five grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey, Max, Maris, and Charlie. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ringgold First Baptist Church with Dr. Kerry Bunn and Rev. Keith Guyton officiating. Interment will follow in Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park.
