Stagmaier Leads Lady Raiders To Sixth In 19:48

HOOVER, AL. -- The winning continues for Baylor senior Bill Matthews.
Competing in the Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival here at Veterans Park Saturday, Matthews won the boys' 5K race with a time of 15 minutes, 34 seconds.
The Baylor boys didn't have one of their better days as a team and finished seventh out of 16 teams.
Mary Stagmaier finished 28th overall in 19:48 to lead the Baylor Lady Raiders to a sixth-place finish among 24 girls' teams.
Hannah Jumper was 30th in 19:51 while Carter Harrison and Virginia Kelly were 55th and 56th, respectively, with times of 20:27.4 and 20:27.8.
Other Baylor girls and their times included Haley Chandler 80th in 21:17, Mary Bryant Myres 93rd in 21:40 and Katie Reeves 95th in 21:47.
"It was a tough course against some of the best competition in the Southeast. It was a huge meet, but my girls ran great," said Baylor coach Heather Ott.
Ruthie Townsend was third overall in the girls' JV race with a time of 21:20.
While Matthews was the winner among the guys, Brandon Lord was the second Baylor finisher in 24th with a time of 16:48.
Skylar Townsend was 30th in 16:58 while Taylor Dix was 69th in 17:39. Mike Meadows and Houston Massey were 72nd and 94th, respectively, with times of 17:46 and 18:15.
MBA captured first place among the boys in the Race of Champions while Collins Hill was the winner among the girls.
