She was an active member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class and had also worked in the prayer room. During her life she also worked with special needs children. Mrs. Calhoun graduated with honors from Women’s College of Georgia and was retired from Associated Transport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Newton Calhoun; parents, Claude Eloise Lambert Dunaway; two brothers, J. H. Dunaway and Albert Lister Dunaway; one sister, Mertice Shaw.
Survivors include two sons, Newton Calhoun and his wife, Merriam of Knoxville, and Bob Calhoun and his wife, Susan of Birmingham, Al.; five grandchildren, Dr. Douglas N. Calhoun, Dr. Robert Bentley Calhoun, Jennifer N. Gilmour, Matthew Scott Calhoun and Benjamin Holland Calhoun; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Ridgedale Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill McGinnis and Wylie Gross officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 12–1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgedale Baptist Church Benevolent Fund 1831 Hickory Valley Road Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
