Nannie Lee Cates Giles, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008.
A Chattanooga native, she lived for a long time in Columbia, Tn., returning to Chattanooga in 1975. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Ernest M. Giles Sr.; daughter, Nancy Giles Chappell; father, George Cates Sr.; mother, Cordie Ball Cates; brothers, George Cates Jr., Buzz Cates and Morris Cates; sisters, Louise Pearson and Edna Green.
Surviving are her son, Ernest M. Giles Jr., of Chattanooga; daughter, Mitzi (Owen) Burns, of Columbia; stepdaughter, Patricia Schneider, of Lake City, Fl.; grandchildren, Lee Ann Pagel and Julius Pagel Jr., of Columbia, Tim Pagel, of Franklin, Tn., Pam Rice, John Giles, Jeff Giles, all of Chattanooga, Matt Chappell, of Wheatland, Calif., David Giles, of Grand Blanc, Mi.; brothers, Harry Cates, of Albany Ga., Don Cates and Tommy Cates, of Tampa, Fl., Melvin Cates and Bill Cates, of Chattanooga; sisters, Jewel Odom, of Chattanooga, and Lavell Combee, of Tampa; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special loving friends, Laurie Beriswill and Janice Wright.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Stitts, the Rev. Eric Stitts and the Rev. Michael Combs.
Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
