Owens Faces Attempted Murder Charge In Club 2301 Shooting
Suspects Apprehended Immediately After Shots Ring Out
posted October 12, 2008

Chattanooga Police have charged Michael Owens, 24, of 1839 Heaton St., with attempted first-degree murder, felony reckless endangerment and aggravated assault in the shooting of 33-year-old Allen Tucker, of Chattanooga, at Club 2301.

Police said the investigation is continuing in the shooting of Ellis Roberson, 26, of Chattanooga, and Antoine Armour, 21, of Chattanooga, at the club at 2301 Milne St.

Three people were shot at the club early Sunday morning.

Police said the people shot at Club 2301 sustained multiple injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Armour was shot inside the club, while the other two were shot when the incident moved outside.

According to witnesses, a fight started inside the club. As security attempted to break up the fight, a suspect pulled a gun and began shooting. As patrons attempted to flee the gunfire, the shooting continued outside where the second two were shot.

Officer John Patterson said he was on the way to check out a theft case when he heard a single gunshot. He said he walked toward the club and began hearing numerous gunshots.

The officer said the shooting continued for about 30 seconds.

He said a crowd of people began to run away in a panic.

He said Armour was found lying on a corner of the dance floor. He had been shot in the right armpit and shoulder and a bullet grazed his head.

Taylor was found in a grassy area near the corner of Milne and Taylor Street. He was shot in the upper chest and calf.

Roberson was taken to Parkridge Hospital by a friend. He was shot in the lower right leg and abdomen.

Officer Patterson said two suspects were found behind the funeral home appearing to hide something in a ditch. He said a .38-caliber weapon was found in the ditch.

He said one witness told of seeing a black male wearing a white T-shirt and a red hat firing shots.

Of the three taken into custody, two suspects are believed to have a direct connection to the incident. Police also arrested Owens on five outstanding warrants - violation of probation, setting fire to personal property, escape and two juvenile charges.

The second suspect is a juvenile.

Charges for both suspects from the incident are pending further investigation.
