Downtown Happenings Through Oct. 20 posted October 13, 2008 Enjoy Autumn with the following downtown events happening through Monday, Oct. 20: Choral Arts of Chattanooga will join forces with Shakespeare Chattanooga to present an evening of choral music based on Shakespeare texts, interspersed with dramatic vignettes from some of Shakespeare's greatest works. The concert will be presented Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at First Centenary United Methodist Church. Join the Southern Belle Riverboat for a Special Cruise upriver to explore the Chickamauga Locks on Wednesday. Make reservations by calling 1-800-766-2784. As part of their Summer Wine Series, Bluff View Arts District will host Zinfandel, Master of Disguises this Thursday. Call 235-5033 x1 to make a reservation. To celebrate Governor Bredesen's 2008 Child Health Week, the City of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department and Hamilton County will hold a Family Park Day on Friday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Coolidge Park. The event will highlight healthy and fun activities in community parks. For more information, call 209-8090. Celebrate NASA's 50th Anniversary with this intergalactic journey of science fiction and fantasy as guest conductor Carl Topilow and the CSO take you to infinity and beyond in a concert that is sure to be out of this world Saturday. The program will begin at 8 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre. Tickets are on sale now online, at the CSO box office, or by calling 267-8583. Storyteller and poet Vincent Phipps will tell the story of Giggling Gerdi at the Creative Discovery Museum's Spooky Days celebration this Saturday under the big tent on the Museum's rooftop at 3 p.m. Other spooky fun from 1-4 p.m. includes arts activities and hot cider and s'mores. To show support of the fabulous work that the McKamey Center does for our community, market goers are invited to bring their pets to market this Sunday.
