Each year, over 600 families call Chattanooga Ronald McDonald House their "home away from home" for an average of 15 days when their child is critically ill or receiving treatment for a life-threatening illness.
This year's Ronald McDonald House Charities golf tournament featured a wireless scoring system from eGolfScore which utilizes a handheld to monitor and report golfers' scores.
During the golf tourney, each team of four players was given a handheld wireless device to enter the team's scores. The data was then broadcast to a big screen TV leader board and to the Internet in real-time. eGolfScore's participation in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Golf Classic was sponsored by Verizon Wireless.
"I thought it brought a lot of excitement to the tournament. It's a turnkey solution that keeps track of them in real time," said Kristen Hayes, Verizon Wireless Business Sales manager.
The 2008 Ronald McDonald House Charities Golf Classic "best overall winner" was the Independent Glass Company team which included: Bill Worley, Greg Underwood, John Kidwell and Sam Hendrix. They took home the Kaylor Cup with an impressive 17 strokes below par ending with a 55.
Fantastic contests were held throughout the tournament for holes-in-one, closest to the pin, straightest drive, longest drive, and a putting contest by Verizon Wireless. Each player received a goody bag containing a $100 voucher that was redeemed onsite for Titleist, FootJoy and Oakley products.
