The milestones just keep clicking on for East Ridge High School veteran volleyball coach Catherine Neely.

On Monday night in the District 6 A/AA high school volleyball tournament at East Ridge, Neely earned her 1,300th coaching victory.

"I still can't believe it,'' Neely said. "I still enjoy it, it's my hobby.

"I love teaching, I enjoy this. I've got good kids, great people behind me and a great school administrative staff. What more could you ask for.''

Even though East Ridge entered the tournament as the top-seeded team, Neely was only just looking for that next victory.

"I'm always just thinking about that next game,'' Neely said. "Our principal (Mark Bean) announced it (1,300 wins) after the game. It was a surprise to me, and the kids didn't know about it either.''

After the match, Neely was asked about how it feels to win her 1,300th victory.

The award-winning and multi hall-of-fame coach simply said, "I just want to talk about the kids. I still can't believe I've got that many wins.''

East Ridge, which had a bye in the first round, beat Hixson 25-15, 25-12 and 25-12 in the quarterfinals.

Sale Creek dropped Bledsoe County in the first round and then beat Lookout Valley 25-11, 25-9, 25-12 in the quarterfinals.

Notre Dame beat South Pittsburg in the first round and Signal Mountain in the second.

CCS beat Grundy County in its first game and then defeated Sequatchie County in the second round.

East Ridge will play Sale Creek in one semifinal on Tuesday at 4:30 and Notre Dame will face off with CCS at 6 p.m. The championship will be played on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
