Local Democrats will be camping out all night to be the first to vote on Wednesday morning, John Bailes, Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman, said.
Early voting begins Wednesday and runs through Oct. 30 at three Hamilton County sites - the election office off Amnicola Highway at the Riverport, Brainerd Recreation Center and Northgate Mall.
Campers will begin assembling in the grassy area outside the election office site at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Mr. Bailes said.
He said, “Camping out to vote first is historical for Hamilton County. I don’t know if this has ever been done before in Chattanooga, but I’ve never seen such excitement and involvement in the political process as I have seen this year. These campers want to be the first to vote and change the country. We’ll join them with hundreds of other Democrats on Wednesday morning when the doors open.”
Before voting on Wednesday morning, campers will be joined by hundreds of other Democrats for a “First to Vote Rally” at the Election Commission at 7:30 a.m. The early voting sites open at 8 a.m.
