Family and Friends Weekend is an annual celebration of the students and families at Bachman Academy, a day and boarding school for children (K-12) with Dyslexia, AD/HD and other learning differences.

The weekend began a little early on Thursday, Oct. 9, at a Welcome Dinner held at 5ive Points Museum in Cleveland, Tn. The children and their families enjoyed a meal with the faculty and staff of the Academy, while they were serenaded by local pianist, Robbie Cody.

Friday morning saw the families back on campus with an exciting schedule for the day. They began by experiencing Morning Wakeup with their children. Morning Wakeup is an energizing time of movement and dance designed to wake up bodies and minds and prepare them for a day of learning.

After Morning Wakeup, parents and children went through an abbreviated class schedule so the children could show off their indoor and outdoor classrooms and some of the projects they are working on for academics and vocational classes.

The abbreviated schedule was followed by lunch and a parent association/ Q&A meeting with the Headmaster. The day wrapped up with skits and plays written by the students, followed by an exciting demonstration by the Bachman Equestrian Drill Team.

Saturday was filled with parent-teacher conferences and parent-child trail rides. The weekend culminated in a basket auction fund-raiser on Saturday afternoon. This year the basket auction raised over $2,700 for the Bachman Academy Parent Association. The Parent Association will use these funds to purchase needed classroom supplies throughout the year.

Bachman Academy is a private, non-profit, day and boarding school for children with Dyslexia, AD/HD and other learning differences in grades K-12. The school specializes in multi-sensory lessons to meet the students' individual needs. Bachman Academy is located on 210-acres of farmland on Brymer Creek Road in McDonald, just five miles north of Ooltewah.
