Court Watch Partners commends the sheriff's court officers for their quick response last Tuesday when a defendant in custody fled Judge Bob Moon's courtroom. He was caught in front of the second flood elevators by one of the court officers.
Some commented that this was certainly a good time to have taken the stairs. Assistant District Attorney Rodney Strong said the defendant could have gotten further if he had a belt on (his pants kept falling down).
Judge Moon bumped his sentence from 90 days to two years. After being processed downstairs, pot was found on his person. This is probably why he ran.
You never know working with Court Watch Partners just what you will witness. While monitoring and documenting cases in court, a journal of these events is also being kept.
All the court officers regardless of which court they are in stand ready to control the situation and again CWP wishes to recognize their professional dedication.

Mr. Tripp, although the defendant should have not attempted an escape, I don't think he was trying to make a fashion statement by "sagging" and not wearing a belt to court and when his pants fell down. If he was brought straight from the holding tank or jail cell, then anything that could be used to harm himself or even another inmate, such as a belt, would have been confiscated along with other items. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong here on this. However, to my knowledge defendants aren't allowed such things as belts once they are locked up.
Judge Moon is a pretty fair and compassionate judge who often attempts to give wise advice to those who appear before him. The defendant should have remained, listened and took whatever punishment the judge dealt him.
Judge Moon is my hero.
