Shootout On Southern Street Was Dispute Over Vehicle Rims 1 Dead, 2 Others Injured: Families Initially Barred From Hospital posted October 15, 2008 Police said a shootout on Southern Street on Tuesday morning that left one man dead and two others injured was a dispute over vehicle rims. LaFredrick Collier, 34, died around 1 p.m. after being taken to Erlanger Hospital. Terrance Walker, 21, is suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Tommy Young, 32, was also shot. A woman told police she was on the porch of her aunt's apartment at 1909 Southern with Collier and Young when Walker drove by several times in a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice. She said he then stopped across the street and got out of the vehicle. She said Walker was holding up the front of his pants with one hand and had the other hand concealed. The woman said he began arguing about the rims with the two men on the porch. She said, as the argument continued, Collier and Young stood up. She said Walker then pulled a silver pistol from his waist. Young drew his gun and shots began to ring out. When police arrived, they found Collier and Walker lying in the yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses said Young grabbed a gun and got into a light-colored Nissan Maxima or Altima. Young had been shot in the neck and shoulder. Young was later picked up and taken to Erlanger. Police said a single 40-caliber round was found on the floor of the hospital emergency room where Collier had been lying. At the scene, officers found a loaded 357 handgun. Young said Walker was firing with a 40-caliber handgun. Police said after a fight broke out at the hospital, that the families of the victims were temporarily banned from the hospital. Young was placed under arrest for criminal homicide and attempted murder. Walker, who was listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon, will also be charged with criminal homicide and attempted murder, police said. Family members of Collier said Young's female friend and called and invited him and Collier over. They said Collier was unarmed and was "an innocent bystander. He was trying to break up a fight between Young and Walker." |
