The International Diabetes Federation is calling on groups worldwide to raise awareness of diabetes on World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14. The United Nations recognizes this as a World Health Day.

Native Chattanoogan and spa consultant Candace Silvasy, who founded Spa4Diabetes to promote healthy living to manage and prevent diabetes, heeded the call with BlueBeauty.

Participating spas create and promote a blue-themed spa treatment to offer on Nov. 14. Treatments may incorporate the color blue or have blue in the name. “Blue is diabetes’ signature color,” she said.

Individuals are encouraged to let local spa(s) know about BlueBeauty. “With over 16,000 spas in the U.S., communicating this opportunity to all of them is nearly impossible,” Ms. Silvasy said. “It’s a great chance to raise awareness of a global epidemic and generate community excitement.”

So far, spas from Thailand, Europe, Asia the United Kingdom and the U.S. are participating. Spa4Diabetes’ goal is to have 1,000 spas on board.

Spas or individuals that would like to participate or wish more information may email Candace candac@artofthespa.com or call her at 513-543-0993.
