Comcast Sponsoring “StudentCam Contest”
posted November 17, 2008

Comcast is teaming up with C-SPAN for the fifth annual “StudentCam Contest.” This national contest invites middle and high school student to produce a short documentary film(s). This year’s topic is: A message to the new president: What is the most urgent issue for the new president to address after taking office and why?

Last year Tennessee had a number of winners. However, Chattanooga Comcast is coordinating the contest in this area to ensure that a number of entries from the Chattanooga area are submitted, it was stated.

A total of over $50,000 will be awarded in prizes, which includes 75 student and 11 teacher awards. Some important contest guidelines:

- Students must be in grades 6 – 12;
- Documentaries must be between 5-8 minutes long;
- Documentaries may include more than one point of view and incorporate C-SPAN programming related to the documentary’s issue;
- Entries must be submitted to C-SPAN by Jan. 20, 2009 – Inauguration Day.

Locally, Chattanooga area documentaries will be featured on Comcast’s Video on Demand, in the local programming area and will be periodically aired on the multiple television screens located at the Comcast Stage in Hamilton Place Mall. Additionally, documentaries may be aired on Comcast channels 3 and 46, if scheduling permits.
