The City Council is expected to tighten the city sign ordinance so that signs are no longer allowed on medians, traffic islands and roundabouts.
Richard Hutsell, who oversees the city sign law enforcement, said the signs are a maintenance as well as a visual problem.
John Van Winkle, city traffic engineer, said the signs can be "a hazard and can add a lot of clutter that detracts from the appearance of the street."
Officials noted that political signs and realty signs are the ones put in those locations most often.
The council is also expected to change the sign ordinance dealing with new LED signs.
Mr. Van Winkle said a number of rules are already in place, including dealing with brighten, scrolling and animation. But he said that should be incorporated into the city code.
