She was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Byrd was born September 6, 1917 in Soddy, Tn. She graduated from Soddy High School in 1935 and the Wiley School of Business in 1937. Mrs. Byrd retired from the accounting department of Erlanger Hospital in 1979.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ella Roberts, sisters, Betha Higgins, Carrie Roberts, Emma Burdett, Mavis Webb and Nellie Greenwood, and a brother, Dennis Roberts.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, William E. Byrd; daughter Dorothy (Ken) Berry of Maryville, Tn.; sons, William (Susan) Byrd and Robert Byrd of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Mike (Audrey) Berry, Tony (Karla) Berry, Bryan (Kristina) Byrd, Beverly (Perry) Walden, Marie (Glenn) Howard; great-grandchildren, Alex, Wilkie, Jessica, Abby, Morgan, Andrew, Callie, Maria, Chelsea, Brennan, Alexandria and Anthony; sisters, Vera Payne of Lexington, NC, Bernice Byrd of Jackson, Ms., Lenora Parnell of Columbia, Tn., and Phyllis Sully of Atlanta, Ga.; special friends, Brenda Russell and Sandy Guffy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Reverend Everett Gossett officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
