Geraldine "Jerry" Gilley Morton, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the age of 87 after a brief illness.

Born in Rome, Ga., she lived most of her life in Chattanooga.

For more than 30 years, she worked side by side with her husband, Bill Morton, at Lansford Piano Company, which they purchased from the Lansford family in 1947.

Jerry was active in civic and cultural affairs in Chattanooga. She was a member of Gideons Auxiliary for almost 50 years and was a former member of the board of Goodwill. She also played with the Chattanooga Symphony during the Symphony’s early years.

As a longtime member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, she was very involved in church activities, often serving as church pianist or organist. Jerry was most recently a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel Cleo Gilley and Maude O. Gilley, and a sister, Virginia Rogers.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill Morton; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Richard Beebe; her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Katie Morton; and three grandchildren, Hugh, Elizabeth and Peter Morton.

She is also survived by three sisters, Louise White of Renzi, Ms., Ollye Jo Goodner of Chattanooga, and Irene Westfall of Evansville, In., as well as five nephews and six nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Marr Chapel of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 201, Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377, or to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are by Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist, North Chapel.
