Northwest Tech Finally Falls
posted November 19, 2008

After an undefeated inaugural season on Georgia’s Technical College circuit, the Northwestern Technical College Mustangs knew the next step was a big one. Tuesday night in Boaz, Ala., proved just that. The roster which held the names of several Division I prospects combined for 22 three-pointers en route to a 111-47 win over the Mustangs.

“This was a big step for us,” said Northwestern Tech Mustang Head Coach, David Stephenson. “However, we were just overmatched. However, we were playing a team that has nine full scholarships with the ability to practice every day. It was a great opportunity for us and it is only going to make us better this season and down the road.”

The Snead State line-up has six players who are 6’6” or taller. Center Zachary McLaughlin tops them all at 6’10”, 225 pounds. The Mustangs' big men are Zach Davis and Tim McKeever - both 6’5” apiece.

Northwestern has a little more than two weeks before the Parsons (6-1), who jumped out to a 51-24 lead at the half, come to LaFayette High School to square off with the Mustangs on their home court Dec. 4.

Second-year Mustang and an LFO alum, McKeever led the scoring effort for NTC with nine points on the night. After leading the way in their first game of the season last Saturday, Ridgeland grad and first-year Mustang, Nichols Nicholas was held to six points on the night.

A pair of newcomers to the Mustang squad (1-1) did what they could in the paint at what the locals call, “Parson’s Pit.” Davis from Savannah and New Jersey native Bilal Weems dropped five points each in the effort.

Next up on the Mustang schedule is Tennessee Temple. Stephenson’s squad will play the Crusader JV squad on Dec. 2 at Tennessee Temple. Then, after a one-day rest, the Parsons head to North Georgia for a re-match of Tuesday night’s game.
