Williams, Roland "Les", Jr. (Cleveland)

Roland ‘Les’ Williams Jr., 78, of Cleveland, died on Wednesday in a Chattanooga hospital.

He was the son of the late Roland Williams Sr. and Mary Williams. He is also preceded in death by his son, Brett Alan Williams.

He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force with over 26 years of service. He served in the Korean War and during the Vietnam War. Prior to joining the Air Force he had spent two years in the United States Marine Corps. After his retirement from the Air Force he began working for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office under the leadership of then Sheriff Lamar Lawson. He was the trainer and the handler of the first drug tracking dog in Bradley County. When he left the sheriff’s department he went to work for TVA Security and then retired after 10 years of employment. In the early 1980’s he taught a dog training class at Cleveland State Community College. Along with his love for dogs was also a love for horses and he was a very active member of several equestrian organizations. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was often seen enjoying spending time with friends in the community drinking coffee at several local restaurants. He was a member of Chestuee Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Williams of Cleveland; two daughters, Dianne Williams Haire of Ooltewah, Linda Loveday and her husband Dave of Melbourne, Fla.; two sons, Robert Keith Williams and his wife Lynn of Melbourne, Fla., Wayne Williams and his wife Babs of Roswell, Ga.; grandchildren, Alissa Drew Polezhaev and her husband Viktor, Courtney Segraves, Jeff Loveday, Jill Brazier and her husband Mark, Christy Williams, Brett Williams, Taylor Williams, Scott Williams, Lindsay Williams, Sarah Williams, Katie Williams; great grandson, Aiden Polezhaev; one brother, John Gary Williams of Silver Springs, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at Jim Rush Funeral Homes, North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend Joe Johnson officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 9 p.m. at Jim Rush Funeral Homes, North Ocoee Chapel who is in charge of the arrangements.
