Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, Barnhardt Circle was the Officers' Row of Fort Oglethorpe, an active army post from 1904-1946. It is located in the city of Fort Oglethorpe, adjacent to the Chickamauga Battlefield. The majority of the stately homes that make up Officers' Row are Queen Anne and Neoclassical in architecture and housed The Commander, the Field Officers, the Captains, the Lieutenants, and the band of Fort Oglethorpe Post. The Candlelight Tour of Homes will be Saturday, Dec. 13, from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14, from 2-6 p.m. and will include tours of seven historic buildings, all original to the Post and all over 100 years old. The tour will also include a display of photographs, maps, interviews, and other memorabilia from Fort Oglethorpe Post currently in the Post Community Association's collection. Wristbands for the tour are $10/adult $5/children (under 12), are good for both days of the tour, and can be purchased at the following businesses along Highway 27/Lafayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe: Walker's Oak and More, Sears Shoe Store, Park Place Restaurant, Tooties Treasures, and Reflections Salon. Wristbands can also be purchased the days of the tour at the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Oglethorpe, just outside the entrance of Barnhardt Circle. All proceeds from the tour will go directly to the Post Community Association and will be used to educate the historical significance of Fort Oglethorpe Post and the importance of preserving the remaining buildings and grounds.
