Weekly Road Construction Report posted November 20, 2008 Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County: I-75 widening project from 1.1 miles south of Lee Hwy. (SR-2 / US-11) to 1.2 miles north of Lee Hwy. (SR-2 / US-11) - Work on this project continues. Here is the major work for this week: Throughout this report period, the contractor will be paving on relocated Hunter Road and Mountain View Road and the extension of Lee Highway. They will also be working at the Snow Hill Road/Mountain View Road intersection. Extensive work on the demolition and reconstruction of the I-75 Bridge over Lee Highway at Exit 11 continues. This work will take place at nighttime only and will require a lane reduction on Lee Highway under the bridge while the work is being performed from 7 p.m. - 6 a.m. One lane on Lee Highway will be maintained in each direction during this work. All lanes on Lee Highway will be reopened during the daytime hours. Please be alert for changing conditions. Each night throughout this report period (with the exception of the time periods listed in the special note on page 1) the contractor will have lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound between mm 10 – mm 12 from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. the following morning to set new barrier rail, realign existing barrier rail and accommodate paving operations. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times. Each day throughout this report period the contractor will have lane closures on Hill Top Road, Hunter Road, Snow Hill Road, Mountain View Road and Lee Highway from 8:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. to install new utilities. However, the contractor must move off the roadway from 2:30-3 p.m. each day during the shift change at Miller Industries. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times. The contractor plans to shift traffic from the existing Hunter and Mountain View Roads to the relocated Hunter and Mountain View Roads and the Lee Highway extension on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 20. This action will necessitate additional lane closures on each of these roads for the night of Nov. 20 beginning at 8 p.m. and extending until 6 a.m. the following morning. Drivers are urged to be alert to the new alignment beginning Friday morning. The temporary slip ramp to I-75 South is now open on Hilltop Drive. Drivers needing to access I-75 South from the Hunter Road area can now do so by using the newly-opened ramp from Hilltop Drive onto the interstate, thereby avoiding the Ooltewah interchange altogether. The slip ramp has its own dedicated lane onto the interstate, so drivers accessing I-75 South via the ramp are not required to merge when entering the interstate. The temporary ramp will be in place for the remainder of the project. Old Lee Highway in this area will remain closed until the new bridge and approaches are complete, which is now scheduled to take place in November 2008. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained. Detours are posted. The rest area located at the end of the project on I-75 South is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the project. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2010. (Bell & Associates Construction/KP).
