Perdue Encouraged By Federal Position In Tri-State Water Case
posted November 20, 2008

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue said Thursday he is encouraged by a federal brief filed in the ongoing Tri-State water case.

He issued the following statement concerning a brief filed by the federal government with the U.S. Supreme Court on a Georgia request for the court to review one issue of the ongoing water negotiations:

“I am encouraged that the federal government strongly agreed with Georgia that the D.C. Circuit ruling was wrong when it set aside the settlement agreement that would have resolved a large part of the Tri-State water wars.

"I find it extremely puzzling that the federal government would file a brief arguing the court ruling was wrong but yet does not want to fix the obvious mistakes. There is no question that this case is clearly important enough for the Supreme Court’s review.

"All three states agree that this case is very important, and I believe review by the Supreme Court would result in Georgia’s position being upheld and a major piece of the water negotiations resolved.”
