Stacy Mauer, president of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, informed the Chamber board of directors on Thursday that she will be leaving her post.
Ms. Mauer said she will be getting married in early January.
Shannon McConnell, board chairman, said, "Unfortunately, with this news came the announcement of her resignation, effective Dec. 31, as she will be joining her new husband in Hickory, N.C.
"During her five years with the Chamber, Stacy has been an outstanding leader for our organization. The past five years have been among the most successful in the history of our Chamber. We've experienced growth in sponsorships, membership and Chamber-sponsored programs. We have been fortunate to have Stacy's talent at the helm of the Walker County Chamber. We will miss her enthusiasm, professionalism and friendship. Stacy truly set a standard of excellence for others to follow.
"The Chamber is dedicated to making the transition to new leadership in an orderly and expeditious manner. A Search Committee, headed by 2009 Chairman of the Board Chip Catlett, will begin taking applications for the President's position immediately."
Effective Jan. 1, Director of Tourism & Public Relations Stephanie Snodgrass will serve as interim president. She will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Chamber. Glenda Jones will maintain her position as director of programs and events and will also aid in the transition.
