McCallie Downs Valiant Bucs In 74-54 Win GPS Beats Lady Bucs 66-30 posted November 20, 2008
Several Boyd-Buchanan basketball players have yet to dress out for practice due to the football teams run into the playoffs. The Buc football team plays in the Class 2A state quarterfinals on Friday so Boyd-Buchanan head coach Jeff Brown had just eight players. All eight played but two played sparingly. McCallie took the lead mid-way through the first quarter and led 17-13 to begin the second quarter. McCallie continued to out score the Bucs in the second quarter but Boyd-Buchanan took the lead after two free throws by Zach Allen with 11 seconds left. McCallie took the lead back at the buzzer when Chad Lee hit one of his three three pointers, giving McCallie a 36-34 lead. McCallie came out strong in the second half scoring the first 10 points. McCallie out scored Boyd-Buchanan 23-8 in the third quarter and led 59-42 at the end of the quarter. The Bucs would cut the lead to 11 late in the game but McCallie poured it on in the final minutes to take the 20 point win. "Boyd played great being undermanned," McCallie head coach Dan Wadley said. "They have alot to look forward to when they get their football players back." Wadley looked frustrated going into the locker room and the young McCallie team responded in the second half. "We executed better better in the second half," Wadley said. "We weren't so quick to take the first shot. We are a young team so we are going to have to do some growing." McCallie was led by Chad Lee who had 19 points. Garrell Hicks had 14 and Ed von Kuhn had 10. Boyd-Buchanan was led by Zach Allen with 19, Michael Bowen with 14 and Jeremy Glisson with 13. Bowen had eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Both teams posted wins on Tuesday with the Bucs beating Signal Mountain and McCallie topping East Ridge. McCallie will not play again until December 6 when they host Christian Heritage. Boyd-Buchanan will play in the Whitwell Thanksgiving Classic next week. GPS 66 BOYD-BUCHANAN 30 GPS jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and led 41-13 at half-time. GPS was led by Chadaryl Clay with 14 points and Lauren Lawrence with 12. Meredith Smith and Jeneh Perry each had 10 points. Boyd-Buchanan was led by Shelby May with 16 points, including four three pointers. Boyd-Buchanan also beat Signal Mountain on Tuesday. The Lady Bucs will also play in the Whitwell tournament next week. This was GPS's first game of the season.
