Rock Creek Outfitters donated $3500 of $9000 raised from their 8th annual Stump Jump, a 50k and 11 mile trail running race on Oct. 8.
The Rock/Creek Stump Jump has become one of the largest ultra marathon-distance races in the country. The Chattanooga-based retailer raised $9,000.00 to benefit local trail development and the Cumberland Trail Conference’s (CTC) ongoing efforts to build the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail.
Once completed, it will be a 290-mile hiking trail from Signal Mountain to Cumberland Gap. The mission of the CTC is the establishment and development of the Cumberland Trail and its associated corridor to provide recreational opportunities and the preservation of the historical, cultural, and natural resources on the Cumberland Plateau.
The Cumberland Trail project is partially funded under an agreement with the State of Tennessee; Division of State Parks. However, the CTC depends on donations and grants to help develop the trail. The Conference plans to use the donation from Rock Creek Outfitters to help fund their annual Alternative Spring Break program. This program brings college and university students from across the nation to Tennessee in order to volunteer with the building of the trail.
It is because of the generous support from Rock Creek Outfitters and other local groups that the CTC can continue its’ mission and bring the trail project nearer to completion, creating a lasting legacy.
