Dennis Clark Launches City Council Campaign posted November 21, 2008 Dennis Milton Clark has launched his campaign for the City Council District 8 seat. He said he is "an avid community organizer who has worked diligently for Chattanooga's youth. Born and raised in the Avondale area of Chattanooga, I have a strong bond with many community programs and community leaders, the bonds and connections needed to get district eight moving again." Mr. Clark said he believes "the people of District 8 and Greater Chattanooga deserve better than what is now and has been given over the past two decades." He said he "will resourcefully and economically implement the foundations for success in helping the homeless help themselves, ensuring economic access to all, saving our young people by reducing minority confinement and increasing African Male achievement and retention, promoting a more livable downtown with further developments to ML King and most importantly making certain our neighborhoods are safe, drug and violence free." In the March 3 city election, he said he "will more than likely challenge incumbent Leamon Pierce and his decades of failed leadership. Change does not stop at Nov. 4. Instead, it continues on to March 3 as we usher in a new generation of leadership." The campaign kick-off will be held Monday at Blue Orleans Restaurant (located at the corner of Main and Market streets) at 5:30 p.m. A brief program at 6:30 p.m. will consist of Georgia State Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan and members of the campaign staff, as well as Mr. Clark, "speaking about the goals, possibilities and guarantees of this campaign."
