Orange Grove Center's residential clients and staff will be treated to a special Thanksgiving meal, courtesy of Hamilton Life Church, on November 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The location is Calvary Church, 1212 South Seminole Drive.
The purpose is to celebrate the holiday with the nearly 300 residents residing in Orange Grove group homes, and to honor the staff members who care for them each day. Members of the Hamilton Life congregation and Orange Grove staff will team to serve those in attendance. Everyone will have an opportunity to take a photo with Santa.
Hamilton Life Church started in October 2006, and is new to the East Brainerd area. Services are held at the Wynnsong Theater, behind Lowe's on Gunbarrel Rd. Pastor Damon Passons says the church desires to play an active role in the community.
"Providing Thanksgiving dinner for the individuals at Orange Grove is a community need," he said. "It is also a great opportunity to serve and show kindness. By serving them, we hope to affirm each person's importance to society and God."
Orange Grove group homes are open 365 days a year. During the holiday season, many clients visit with their loved ones, but the center offers those remaining the convenience of a loving, holiday setting within each group home, complete with decorations, holiday meals and all the trimmings. Every individual served is made to feel special.
