posted December 2, 2008

Chattanooga forward Shanara Hollinquest has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from Nov. 25 through Dec. 1

Hollinquest averaged 18 points per game in four contests last week, scoring at least 13 points in each contest. In the SoCon opener versus Samford on Monday night, the junior poured in a season-high 26 points, including the final six points, to lead the Lady Mocs to a 55-54, come-from-behind victory. A native of Sylacauga, Ala., Hollinquest shot 58.7 percent from the floor (27-of-46) and pulled down 6.8 rebounds per outing.

The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.

Other top performers during the week were College of Charleston’s Nikki Williams, Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, Samford’s Savannah Hill, Elon’s Urysla Cotton, Appalachian State’s Sade Means, Furman’s Katie Johnson, Western Carolina’s Emily Clarke and Georgia Southern’s Ashley Melson.
