Over 100 educators from all 21 Hamilton County middle schools will meet at the Bessie Smith Hall on Wednesday 3 from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m. to gain insight on school improvement from Dr. Mike Schmoker, nationally acclaimed educator and author.
Dr. Schmoker will lead interactive workshops for principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches and math and reading teachers from each Hamilton County middle school.
“These school leaders are bringing truly remarkable results to Hamilton County middle schools,” said Ismahen Kangles, director of Middle Schools for a New Society. “They are constantly seeking ways to continue this improvement, and working with Dr. Schmoker provides a tremendous opportunity for all of us to learn and grow as educators.”
Dr. Schmoker’s latest book, Results Now: How We Can Achieve Unprecedented Improvements in Teaching and Learning, “presents a provocative critique of ‘business as usual’ in American education,” claims education expert Richard DuFour. Results Now is Dr. Schmoker’s fourth widely acclaimed book. He has also authored articles for publications like Education Week and TIME magazine.
The workshop is part of a four-year improvement initiative that has been made possible through a partnership between the Public Education Foundation and the Hamilton County Department of Education. The Lyndhurst Foundation and the National Education Association Foundation have provided $8.5 million in funding to support this work.
