Downtown Happenings Through Jan. 12 posted January 5, 2009 Enjoy Winter in Chattanooga with the following downtown events happening through Monday, Jan. 12. The UTC Department of Art 2009 Juried Student Exhibition will take place Tuesday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 25 at the UTC Cress Gallery of Art. The opening public reception will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 5:30-7 p.m. with the awards ceremony during the reception at 5:45 p.m. Please call 425-4600 for more information. New York City-based singer and composer Shelley Hirsch will perform with the Shaking Ray Levis Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Winder Binder Gallery of Folk Art. The NorthShore Merchants Collective is sponsoring a "Biggest Winners on the NorthShore" contest. Two winners, one man and one woman, will undergo a transformation of body, mind and spirit for the New Year. Through Monday, Jan. 26, anyone 21 years of age or older may submit an essay of 50 words or less, stating why they, or someone they know, should win. The winners will be announced on Jan. 30 and will begin their transformation the first week in February.
