Wamp Crisscrossing State As Gubernatorial Campaigning Starts

Rep. Zach Wamp will be crisscrossing the state next week as he begins seeking support in the governor's race.

He has stops in Nashville, Jackson and Memphis on Monday.

Later in the week he will be in Oak Ridge, Maynardville, Tazewell, Rutledge, Dandridge, Cleveland and back in Chattanooga for a breakfast at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

He will be honored at a breakfast in Chattanooga this Saturday morning.

Here is his upcoming schedule:

January 12, 2009
Congressman Wamp will visit Nashville, Jackson and Memphis.

10:30 a.m. CST Congressman Wamp will tour the FedEx Institute of Technology on the campus of University of Memphis.

Location: 365 Innovation Way, Memphis, Tenn.

5:30 p.m. CST Congressman Wamp will attend the retirement reception for Tennessee Rural Development State Director Mary Ruth Tackett at the Ellington Agricultural Center.

Location: Ed Jones Auditorium, 440 Hogan Rd., Nashville, Tenn.

6:00 p.m. CST Congressman Wamp will attend the State House and Senate Republican Caucus Dinner with Ambassador and U.S. Senator Howard Baker, U.S. Senator Fred Thompson, Governors Winfield Dunn and Don Sundquist, U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker, Congressmen Phil Roe, Jimmy Duncan, Marsha Blackburn, and former U.S. Senator and Majority Leader Bill Frist.

7:45 a.m. CST Congressman Wamp will attend a breakfast hosted by Tennessee House of Representatives Majority Leader Jason Mumpower.

Location: 103 War Memorial Building, across the street and just south of the State Capitol, Nashville, Tenn.

9:00 a.m. CST Congressman Wamp will meet and greet members of the Tennessee Legislative delegation during “Coffee and Donuts” at the Tennessee State Capitol.

Location: War Memorial Building, 2nd and 3rd floors, Nashville, Tenn.

12:00 p.m. CST Congressman Wamp will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the 106th Tennessee General Assembly.

Friday, January 16, 2009
7:30 a.m. Congressman Wamp will keynote the weekly East Tennessee Economic Council (ETEC) breakfast.

Location: University of Tennessee (UT) Outreach Center, 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tenn.

9:45 a.m. Congressman Wamp will meet and greet residents of Union County at the Union County Courthouse.

Location: 901 Main St., Maynardville, Tenn.

11:30 a.m. Congressman Wamp will meet and greet residents of Claiborne County and eat lunch at the Old Town Grill.

Location: 1440 N. Broad St., Tazewell, Tenn.

1:00 p.m. Congressman Wamp will meet and greet residents of Grainger County at the Grainger County Agriculture Pavilion located behind Rutledge Middle School.

Location: 280 Bryan Rd., Rutledge, Tenn.

2:15 p.m. Congressman Wamp will meet and greet residents of Jefferson County at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Location: downstairs courtroom, 202 West Main St., Dandridge, Tenn.

4:30 p.m. Congressman Wamp will tour the newly renovated Ocoee Middle School with Principal Ron Spangler, local officials and residents of Bradley County.

Location: in the "gymatorium," 2250 N. Ocoee St., Cleveland, Tenn.

Note: the three year, two-phase, $13.1 million construction project on the campus which once was home to Bradley County High School, later became Bradley Junior High and now is one of the county's two middle schools. Phase I of the Ocoee Middle School project began in 2005 with construction of a new building with 26 classrooms and a kitchen/cafeteria wing. An enclosed bridge connects the building to the main section of the campus. The cost of Phase I was more than $6 million. Phase II, funded by the Bradley County Commission, includes construction of a multi-purpose building, a "gymatorium" with two full-size gymnasium floors, seating on one side of the gymnasium area and a stage on the opposite side for choral and drama presentations. (This gymnasium has been in use for more than half a century.)
