Wesley Schultz was born in Birmingham, Ala., but has lived in Chattanooga since he was six years old.

He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1969. While there he took two years of art, which led to an interest in photography. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974 and was a teletype repairman stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for two years.

Afterward, he received a certificate in management from Chattanooga State and later was a service rep for Pitney Bowes, which he joined in 1974.

He credits John Wilson and Chattanoogan.com for his current enthusiasm for photography, as he covers breaking-news stories and weekend events and frequently contributes striking, sometimes very creative, photographs.

He also became enthusiastic about drawing after being inspired by local artist T.J. Johnson, creator of the world's largest pencil drawing.

With the help of computers, scanners and digital cameras, he is able to mix art work with photography for new and different effects.
