Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) made the following statement today regarding the nomination of Arne Duncan for U.S. Secretary of Education:
“Among several outstanding nominations made by President-elect Obama, I believe Arne Duncan is the best,” Alexander said at a hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) of which he is a member. “I look forward to working with him to reduce the over-regulation of higher education, restore flexibility to state and local leaders so they can improve schools, increase the number and quality of charter schools, and find innovative ways to pay teachers more for teaching well.”
Alexander is a former U.S. Secretary of Education and serves as ranking Republican on the HELP Subcommittee on Children and Families.
