Adams Challenges Avowed Atheist On Ten Commandments Asks Bruce Wilkey Appear Before County Commission posted November 10, 2001 County Commissioner Curtis Adams is challenging a local avowed atheist to appear before the County Commission on the issue of posting the Ten Commandments. Bruce Wilkey of Signal Mountain has been critical of the commission's vote to post the Ten Commandments and said a lawsuit may result. Mr. Wilkey has also hit an upcoming Ten Commandments rally at McKenzie Arena featuring Judge Roy Moore of Alabama. Commissioner Adams and Commission Chairman Bill Hullander are among those taking a role in that rally. Commissioner Adams said, "The decision made by a majority of County Commissioners to post the Ten Commandments has brought on a groundswell of support and some opposition. "The most extreme antagonism has cme from Mr. Bruce Wilkey who has used newspapers, email, radio and personal letters to commissioners to express his critical opinions. "I received a letter from Mr. Wilkey in which he said we are trampling on his rights and the rights of 25 million atheists in America, who have no belief in God, prayer or the Bible. "To save Mr. Wilkey much time and effort, I want to extend to him a personal invitation to appear before the Commission and tell us his views in person. "I have never met an atheist and would like to meet Mr. Wilkey. "Any weakling can write letters. Let's see if he has the guts to face us. "We make our views known out in the open. We welcome you to do the same." |
