Grand Opening Set Next Week For New State Prison At Wartburg posted March 27, 2009 Tennessee’s new state-of-the-art prison will officially open next week in Wartburg. The Morgan County Correctional Complex will house more than 2,400 inmates and will lead to the decommissioning of the historic Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex. The Morgan County Complex is 500,000 square feet and sits on 65 acres. The new prison will house minimum, medium and maximum-security inmates. “This facility will mean continued safety for our community, an improved Department of Correction and jobs for an area that has been very supportive of the TDOC,” said Commissioner George M. Little. A grand opening ceremony is planned for next Friday. |
