A home in Brainerd was heavily damaged by a fire early Monday afternoon.
At 12:55 p.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 405 Talley Road. Upon arrival, Lt. Donny McMillian on Quint 13 reported a working structure fire. Firefighters encountered a well-involved fire in the structure located near the rear of the residence.
The homeowner, Tim Bryant, stated that he was in the shower when he was alerted to the fire by his dogs barking in an unusual manner. Mr. Bryant, to see what was wrong with the dogs, looked out of the shower and noticed smoke and fire coming from the laundry area.
Mr. Bryant was able to grab his clothes and exit the structure. He was able to get one dog from the structure. Unfortunately, he was not able to save the other dog.
Firefighters were able to remove the trapped dog, but the dog had already succumbed to the smoke prior to the removal.
An official determination of the cause of the fire has not yet been made. Lt. Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division is determining a cause of the fire.
Damage to the house was extensive and the loss is estimated to be $100,000 and is considered to be a total loss.
Six fire companies responded to the alarm. Assistance was provided by the Chattanooga Police Department, McKamey Animal Shelter, Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Service.
