Red Bank Being Asked To Transfer Land For New Middle School
posted May 22, 2009

The city of Red Bank is being asked to transfer land to make it possible to locate the new Red Bank Middle School at the campus of Red Bank High School, the county school board was told Thursday night.

Gary Waters, associate superintendent of auxiliary services, said the high school campus appears "huge." But he said the school property actually ends just behind the school.

He said adjacent property, including ball fields, belongs to the city of Red Bank and to Erlanger Hospital.

Mr. Waters said there is sentiment to locate the Red Bank Middle School inside the city limits of Red Bank. But he said Red Bank is landlocked and difficult to find a tract large enough for a school.

He said the city of Red Bank, the County School Board and the County Commission would have to sign off on any such land transfer.

Mr. Waters said the middle school would require athletic fields and it would not work to try to share the current ones with the high school.

The school board approved a contract with TWH Architects to draw up plans for the new school, which was funded several years ago by the County Commission.
