The senior pastor of Silverdale Baptist Church, Tony Walliser, is being treated for severe burns to his legs.
He was initially taken to Erlanger Medical Center after an accident while burning leaves in his yard.
Erlanger no longer has a burn unit, so he was transferred to the burn center at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
Church members said he is being treated for severe second- and third-degree burns.
A note on the church website on Sunday said:
"Brother Tony had a relatively good day today. He has been able to get much needed rest with minimal interruption. The doctor is pleased with the way the wounds are healing and he will have another hydro-treatment this evening. They will evaluate again sometime tomorrow. His pain has been manageable, with worst of it occurring when he stands and attempts to walk. He, Susan and their children very much appreciate the prayers of our church family.
"Today’s Prayer Request: Pray that the pain in standing and walking will be removed, that the wounds will continue to heal as they currently are, and that he and Susan will continue to be able to get the rest that they need.
"We will send another update tomorrow at 7 p.m. Thank you for supporting them with your prayers and understanding their need for rest."
