Jesse Jackson In Town Wednesday To Discuss VW Plant And Minorities
posted June 15, 2009

Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson will be in Chattanooga on Wednesday and will discuss his views "on the effect the new Volkswagen plant will have on the city’s minority community. He will also discuss the current economic climate of the Scenic City and the surrounding areas."

He will visit Olivet Baptist Church, and the public is invited.

Officials said, "Every Wednesday for the past eight years, more than 300 break away from their busy schedules to travel to Olivet Baptist Church to attend its noon day Bible Study. While this service is traditionally officiated by the church’s pastor, Kevin L. Adams, the pulpit on Wednesday will be shared with American civil rights activist, President/Founder of Rainbow Push Coalition, and Baptist minister, Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr."

Immediately following the noon day service, Rev. Jackson will serve as a keynote speaker at the Fellowship Luncheon at the Kingdom Center. This private luncheon is hosted by Olivet Baptist Church for area pastors, ministers and community leaders. Those interested in attending may contact (423) 266-8709 ext. 221 to RSVP.

Olivet Baptist Church is located at 740 Martin Luther King Blvd.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. Photo opportunities will include Rev. Jesse Jackson addressing an estimated crowd of 1,800.
