Can Anyone Get Their Name On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame? - And Response posted June 25, 2009 I get a big kick out of page two of the Times Free Press, about every second week, when the latest photo of some forty-year-old star gets his/her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Not knocking the TFP, as all they're doing is reporting our current junk culture, and apparently that's what the readers want. Still, I have to wonder what Clark Gable, W.C. Fields, Mae West, Lillian Gish, Bogart, Monroe, Newman, Laurel and Hardy, Groucho, Cary, Garbo, Julie Andrews, and several dozens of other truly great and memorable actors would be thinking of sharing this honor with others the stature of What next, Jennifer Lopez for her Academy-Award-burping Anaconda? Why not Madonna? How about Falkie? How about Tim Robbins? How about Ice Cube? I mean, they've all been around for some time now, so shouldn't they be enshrined with Brando, Gary Cooper and Liz and Dick? John R. Smickle jsbottomfeeder@juno.com * * * The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce "Walk of Fame Committee" is responsible for selecting a new group of entertainers each year to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. New recipients are announced each June for the following year. In order for a person to get a star on the Walk of Fame, he or she must agree to attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection, and a $25,000 fee must be paid to the Trust for costs such as security at the star ceremony.
