Employees at David Brainerd School have filed suit in Chancery Court, saying they are owed for several pay periods.
Officials of the private Christian school in East Brainerd recently announced that, due to financial problems, the school was closing.
The lawsuit says the employees were told there is no money available to pay them the amounts they are owed.
The complaint, filed by attorney James A. Fields, said the school owns property and has other assets.
The employees are asking for a lien on those assets.
Filing the suit were Kathaleen Hughes, Dauna Clinton, Susanne Bowling, Tawambi Settles, Deborah Phillips, Joseph Decosimo, Speight Overman, Diana Kidwell, Joseph Jarrett, John McBride, Paul Maffett, Sandra Washburn, Damarest Jensen, Tami Miller, Erin McKee, Jesse Bankhead Jr., Amanda Matthews, Kenneth Akin, Helen Akin, Amy Noll, Kristi Twitchell and Ethan Pettit.
Michael Kirk was initially a plaintiff, but he later asked that his name be removed.
