East Ridge Flag To Be Selected By Residents
posted July 2, 2009

Citizens of East Ridge will soon have a new city flag – one designed by a resident and chosen by the residents. The design contest was announced in March and 18 flag designs were submitted. Citizens of East Ridge may now vote for their favorite design online at www.eastridgetn.org or at the East Ridge City Library, 1517 Tombras Ave. Voting ends Aug. 7.

“Our city is filled with talent, and the submitted designs are a testament to that fact,” said East Ridge City Mayor Mike Steele. “The voting process is a great way to get the community involved in making history. All East Ridge citizens may vote for their favorite, and the most popular design will become part of the new visual identity for East Ridge.”

Only vote per person will be registered. All results will be independently reviewed and verified by the City Audit firm of Johnson, Hickey and Murchison for accuracy and completeness.

The results will be released at a City Council meeting scheduled for Aug. 27. Once a selection is made and announced, East Ridge City staff and Council will work with the winning artist to complete the design and finalize the flag for its first official public appearance at a special unveiling ceremony.

For more information on the contest, please contact William R. Whitson at 423 867-7711 or wwhitson@eastridgetn.org.
