Elmore, George Eugene

George Eugene Elmore, 72, of Hixson, died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at his home after a brief illness.

He graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1955. George retired from Velsicol Chemical Corp, after 40 years of service as a pipefitter. He proudly served eight years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and was known by many from his ten years of service at the Hixson Golden Gallon/Kangaroo.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ruby George and Madge Olinger Elmore.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth “Brad” Elmore; two daughters, Susan (Terry) Wofford and Saundra (Randall) Weathers; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Bobby, Kelly, Alex and Eric Elmore; Chris, Jennifer and Jeremy Wofford; and Justin Wingfield and eight great-grandchildren, Blaine, Landon, Katelyn Elmore; Carter, Hayden and Hood Wofford; Caden and Hunter (“Hambone”) Wingfield; brother and sister-in-law, John Thomas and Exie Joe Elmore, and a niece, Jocelyn Wall,
of Longview, Tx.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Chattanooga Church.

The Rev. Morty Lloyd will conduct the service at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, in the church. Interment will be in Tyner Cemetery.
