Arthur M. Allen II, 89, of Lookout Mountain, died on Friday, July 3, 2009 in a local hospital.
He was a deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga. Mr. Allen was a graduate of McCallie School and the University of Tennessee where he played on the basketball team.
He was the owner of Arthur Allen Realty and had been active in Gideon's International and the Union Gospel Mission. He had coached youth baseball on Lookout Mountain and enjoyed hunting, fishing and tennis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Allen; parents, Walter S. Allen, Sr. and Frances Morris Allen; two brothers, Walter S. Allen Jr. and Eugene Allen.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Baird and her husband Andrew, of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren, Andrew C. Baird III of Washington, D.C., Davis Allen Baird and Owen Cason Baird, both of Arlington, Va.
The family would like to express special thanks to the current team of caregivers: Mae Carpenter, Jonathan Butler, April Hollingsworth and Robin Daniel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6, at First Presbyterian Church with Joel Treick and Mike Preg officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Monday in the church connector. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
