Police have ruled the death of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair a homicide.

No ruling has yet been made in the case of the 20-year-old woman who was also dead at the scene. Police said a semi-automatic pistol was found underneath her body.

The bodies of the popular McNair and the young woman he had been dating for the past several months were found Saturday in a condominium in downtown Nashville at Second South and Lea Avenue.

McNair was shot four times, including twice in the head and twice in the chest.

Sahel Kazemi had a single gunshot wound to the side of the head.

Police said the bullets that killed McNair were consistent with the gun found under Ms. Kazemi.

It is believed they died in the early morning hours of Saturday - hours before the bodies were discovered in the living room of the residence.

The man who found the bodies at first thought the couple was sleeping. After walking into the kitchen and back into the living room, he saw blood on the floor and found they were dead.

Police said he "was greatly disturbed" by what he saw and he first called a male friend, who was also a close friend of McNair.

It is believed that Ms. Kazemi arrived at the condominium first, then McNair afterward.

She had an apartment in the Hermitage area of Nashville. Police said her only record was a DUI.

Police said the section where the bodies were found is considered a quiet neighborhood.

Autopsies were performed Sunday.

Police said there must be much additional testing before there is a classification on the death of Ms. Kazemi. Part of the testing will be gun residue to try to detect who might have fired a gun.

McNair was seen at two Nashville bars on Friday night.

There were no signs of forced entry. The person who discovered the body had to use a key to get in.

McNair, 36, was married and the father of four children.

McNair was the quarterback for the Titans from 1998 to 2005, then he played for the Baltimore Ravens before retiring in 2008.

He was an All American at Alcorn State University and had an outstanding game in Chattanooga against the UTC Mocs.
