Student Photography On Exhibit At Landis Gallery posted July 9, 2009 Boyd-Buchanan and the Association for Visual Arts will host a student photography show entitled Composition Study. Thirty-one pieces will be displayed in AVA's Landis Gallery at 30 Frazier Ave. from July 9-30. The reception will be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. The following students contributed work: Julia Rox, Taylor Kinser, Katie Coker, Jordan Scholl, Courtney Baumberger, Haley Cordle, Daniel Willard, Carrie Arendale, Allison Rayers, Sarah Joseph and Margaret Rox. In the fall of 2008, Melissa Owens, a local photographer and teacher, began working with a group of students from Boyd-Buchanan School to explore the element of composition in photography. They began by learning to see all of the imagery on their photographic "canvas" in terms of line and shape as well as light and shadow. This led to a study of the Rule of Thirds, the Fibonacci Series, and the Golden Mean, and thus, to begin to open their eyes to the art inherent in nature. These efforts have culminated in a diverse body of work showcasing student personality and perspective. |
