The prix fixe dinner is by reservation with seating beginning at 6:30 and show at 8:00. We were given a choice of beef or fish, which order must be placed and payment made at the time you make your reservation. The total came to approximately $41 per person, including tax and gratuity. Wine is served with the meal and included in the price.
On the evening of our visit, the entertainment, Laura Sable and Bill Wiemuth, performed their final show prior to getting married on Aug. 10. Their show detailed the history of the Delta Queen.
Once everyone has been shown to their tables, service starts quickly with wine and drink orders being taken. Our first course was a Caesar salad, accompanied by dinner roll. Wayne and I both chose the beef, a sirloin filet accompanied by potato and vegetable. The other choice was grouper. The meat was very tender, although a little well done for my taste (they did not ask for our preference). The vegetables were wonderful. I don’t know what they did, but I would certainly like to know. Most restaurants serve the standard steamed or sautéed yellow and zucchini squash with the same bland taste. This was crisp, yet tender, and had a slightly sweet taste. Wayne, who usually never eats past the first bite anywhere else, ate every bite, as did I!
We were a bit disappointed with the cheesecake for dessert, after reading about the wonderful dessert offerings on their website - fallen angel chocolate torte, crème brulee or New Orleans bread pudding. None of those were to be seen or had! Another item listed as a specialty was Bouillabaisse – that wasn’t offered either.
There is a breakfast buffet daily featuring fresh fruit, pastries and cereals as well as freshly prepared omelets made to order, and scrambled or fried eggs served with different meats. If you’re a guest on the “Queen”, breakfast is complimentary. If you just want to stop by and enjoy the bountiful buffet, it is $8.95, which sounds like a bargain to me.
Dinner is served on Friday and Saturday nights, while breakfast is served Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. You do not need a reservation for breakfast.
