Jordan Thomas Set To Be Next Friday's CNN Hero posted August 22, 2009 Chattanooga's Jordan Thomas is scheduled to be this Friday's CNN Hero, assuming he is not pre-empted by some late-breaking news. He is also scheduled to film with Larry King early this week, and will be on Larry King Live Thursday if all things go as arranged. Larry King will introduce him as Friday's hero. If Jordan, who started a foundation after he lost both feet in a boating accident, is chosen one of the Top Ten Heroes, then he will be on Anderson Cooper Live on Thanksgiving night. Jordan just returned from Minneapolis where he received the National Courage Award from the Courage Center. This award has been given to Christopher Reeve, Janet Reno, and Bob Dole, to name a few. This year, Jordan was chosen over Michael J. Fox, Mohammad Ali, and Jenny McCarthy. Sirius Satellite Radio also recently featured Jordan in a live interview to 18.5 million listeners. Jordan's main fundraiser, the Low Country Boil and the Jordan Thomas Golf Tournament, is scheduled for Saturday. Oct. 3, and Monday, Oct. 5, respectively. The Low Country Boil will be at the new Warehouse Row Courtyard and the golf tournament will be played at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. Tickets may be purchased online at Jordan's website, where donations may be made as well. Jordan's foundation provides prosthetics for children of traumatic injury, and commits to this provisional relationship until the recipient reaches age 18. The average cost of a leg is $10,000 and an arm is $15,000. The foundation currently has three beneficiaries and their stories are on Jordan's website. Jordan is a junior at the College of Charleston. For more information, see www.jordanthomasfoundation.org or contact Janet Jobe, 423-622-9006, janetjobe@comcast.net. |
